TIME

The economic picture is looking brighter these days. The federal government announced Thursday that economic growth had picked up to its fastest pace in two years, while employment growth over the past five months has averaged a healthy 185,000 new jobs. But as evidenced by a report out Thursday from the Corporation for Enterprise Development, nearly half of Americans are living in a state of “persistent economic security,” that makes it “difficult to look beyond immediate needs and plan for a more secure future.”

In other words, too many of us are living paycheck to paycheck. The CFED calls these folks “liquid asset poor,” and its report finds that 44% of Americans are living with less than $5,887 in savings for a family of four. The plight of these folks is compounded by the fact that the recession ravaged many Americans’ credit scores to the point that now 56% percent…

Dust off your dreams!

When was the last time you dreamed?

Not while you were sleeping, but while you were awake, with purpose and intention.

When you were a kid, did you ever say, “When I grow up I want to be a (fill in the blank)”. Or, “When I grow up I want to go (fill in the blank)”.

Somewhere along the road of life and in your working life, you either gave up your dream or you shrunk it to fit your current (paycheck) lifestyle.

IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE SO!!

Dust off your dreams and consider them resurrected! Remember what got you excited and what drove you to strive to do better and be better! Now, if you’re not living to your fullest capacity, it’s time to do something about it! I don’t want you to one day look back at your life and say, “I should have done this or that”.

Start today by doing one of these things:

1. Get a piece of paper and write down some places in the world you would like to visit or things you would like to have.

2. Pick up a magazine with your favorite subject (for me it is Coastal Living) and cut out some pictures to put around your home.

3. Search the Internet for images or an image you can put on your desktop.

The point is to surround yourself with inspiration that motivates you! Don’t be comfortable with mediocrity!

Here is my DREAM BOARD – I add to and switch around every few weeks:

Various things that motivate or inspire me.

Various things that motivate or inspire me.

If you’ve lost your excitement, rekindle it today by dreaming!

If you would like to share, I would love to hear about your dreams! Please comment! 🙂

In the next few posts, I will share with you what to do next by using what you already know to begin working toward living your dreams!

Writers block Photo by Vince Kusters

“Wait,” you say. “I thought you said these were going to be quick, easy tips! Posting is The Hardest Thing Evah!”

I feel you. Writer’s block is real, but an active posting schedule of useful content is rule number one in traffic building.

Posts don’t have to be a ten-paragraph original academic essay to be worthwhile, though! Here are some ideas if the blank page (well, post editor) is getting you down:

  • Post a photo you’ve recently snapped, with a few lines about where it was…

Stop the Grind! You don’t have to be Confined!

So you’re accustomed to the daily grind? Getting up every morning by the alarm clock (after a snooze or 2), being exhausted and dying to get to Friday (TGIF) so you can finally have some free time to do what you want to do!

It’s the same ol’ song and dance.  Over and over telling yourself that if you could just make it to 5 years, you can have 3 weeks vacation! Yay! What a great looking carrot! I remember personally in my employee status wanting to get to Supervisor.  Then once there, I wanted Manager.  Then I saw how much my Manager worked and how he had to work on his vacation days and I rethought that real quick fast and in a hurry.

BUT I was stuck there and making what I thought was great money.  It was more than I had made in my life and I was willing to stick it out (SETTLE) until I retired.  UGH! Looking back, I am soooo glad I’m not still driving down that same road day after day!

Don’t get me wrong…I really enjoyed my work and I liked what I did.  There’s a misconception that just because you want your own business that you can only jump ship if you hate what you do and you’re miserable.  That’s not true at all! What you are doing for your business may be along the same lines or even in direct competition to who you are working for right now! The work may be great and it may be right up your alley…what’s for the birds is having someone else set your schedule (and worth).

You’re blessed if you have flex hours or flex schedule.  But for most of the employees in the nation, you have a boss who tells you what to do, when to do it and how fast to get it done.

For anyone who loves what they do (or maybe you only like it) I can help you figure a way to stay in your current role — but as your own boss!

Want to get a raise – OK! Approved!

Want to take a 4 week vacation? – let me check the books…yup! You’ve earned it!

Want to bring your kids to work with you so they can learn what you do? Done!

I love the FREEDOM that working for myself gives me.  I can also really use my talents and skills to their fullest because I am writing my so-called ‘Job Description’.

If you think this may be for you…follow me and I’ll be giving you little bits and pieces of valuable info to help you start your own business beginning with your spare time!

Excuses for not starting your own business?

By working faithfully eight hours a day you may eventually get to be boss and work 12 hours a day. Robert Frost, American poet.

I just chose a random excuse from my e-book (to be published soon) –

Excuse #3 – Well, I’ve worked my way up to 3 weeks a year vacation and get a bonus!

DEBUNKED – do you like all the parameters set on the vacation time that you have? Those 3 weeks of vacation can only be taken IF and WHEN it’s approved.  Also, bonuses are rarely guaranteed.  Several times during my work career bonuses have been less than expected or done away with all together.

This was me.  Always excited about the carrots I was being thrown by the company I worked for.  Because I was employed there longer than any other company I had worked for, I was up for 3 weeks vacation and had been receiving the largest bonuses I had ever experienced! I look back now and I actually was thinking of the exciting times I would be having when I got up to 4 weeks vacation at 10 years with the company!! WOW!!

Well, now I know there’s a better way…much better! MY OWN WAY! If I’m running the show, I am the one to tell me how long my vacation is going to be and I’m also the one who is going to tell me how much I’m worth! Has your employer paid you what you’re worth lately?

Thanks for sticking with me and again, if you follow me I will give you the notification when my website is up and running and I would like for you to stop by! I will be mentoring and coaching women who want to leave the corporate world (vacate the cubicle like I did) or simply change their employee status and become the employer! It’s a beautiful thing!

Paycheck to Prosperity!!
